Members of the Saginaw Underwater Explorers traveled to Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay at Petoskey to clean marine growth from an underwater crucifix. It is believed to be the only freshwater, underwater crucifix in the world.
Over a two day period six club members conducted two dives each. Because of the shallow water each diver was able to spend about an hour underwater each time, for a total of almost 12 hours of underwater cleanup.
The crucifix lies about 800 off shore from Bayfront Park in Petoskey. It is usually buoyed during the summer months. While it can be considered a shore dive, a boat makes it a lot easier.
